Department of Library and Information Science

 

The LIS department is an established department since 2015.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Library & Information Science (PGDLIS) Diploma program normally takes one academic year to complete. One year is divided into 2 Semesters (Spring Semester: January-June and Autumn Semester: July-December). Duration of each semester is not less than 14 teaching weeks. There shall be final examinations at the end of each semester conducted by the Examination Committee of the PGDLIS program.

In order to complete the Diploma, total 40 credit hours to be undertaken and completed by 02 semesters. However a student may be allowed to complete their graduation studies in the university within maximum of three academic years (i.e. 06 semesters).

The total contact period for the regular students including lecture and tutorial shall be between 20 periods per week, each period being 45-60 minutes in duration

Students shall generally be admitted into the First Semester class. An Admission Committee shall be formed as per statute of the university. A candidate for admission into the First Semester class must have passed the Graduation in any discipline or equivalent with minimum total grade point 7 (S.S.C + H.S.C + Degree or equivalent.). The admission test shall be conducted by the PGDLIS co-ordination committee. No student shall ordinarily be admitted after the class starts. A student shall have to attend 70% of classes held in a course. The Head of the Department shall monitor class holding and attendance of students.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Library & information science programs aims at creating professional manpower for librarianship. The training will enable suitable candidates to eventually upgrade the post of library officer. The Job fields are High School, College, Madhrasha, Public or private University, Government Institutes, NGO and many more.
