Dr. Masudul Hoq Chowdhury,
Treasurer, Feni University, Bangladesh.

Dr. Masudul Hoq Chowdhury is a distinguished development professional, researcher, and academic administrator with an extensive career spanning several decades in the field of rural development. He currently serves as the Treasurer of  Feni University, contributing his vast experience to the institution’s financial and administrative leadership.

Dr. Chowdhury began his professional journey in 1987 at the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), where he served with dedication until his retirement as Additional Director General. During his tenure at BARD, he undertook a wide range of responsibilities, including conducting training programs, leading research initiatives, and implementing pilot projects focused on rural development. His work significantly contributed to advancing sustainable practices and improving livelihoods in rural Bangladesh.

His areas of expertise include environmental management, environmental education, poultry development, and aquaculture. Notably, Dr. Chowdhury is recognized as a pioneer of ecological sanitation in Bangladesh, for which he was awarded the prestigious Gold Medal Award in 2011. He also received the BARD Innovation Award in 2018 and 2019 for his outstanding contributions to the development of low-cost incubator technology.

An accomplished researcher, Dr. Chowdhury has authored 13 journal articles in national and international publications and has presented 13 research papers at international seminars and conference proceedings. His scholarly work reflects a strong commitment to sustainable development and innovation.

Dr. Chowdhury has been actively engaged with several renowned international academic and research institutions. He is a life member of organizations associated with Oregon State University, United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS), and Hiroshima University, among others. He has also participated in numerous international conferences and seminars held at prestigious institutions such as University of Oxford, environmental research centers in London and Japan, and leading universities across Asia and beyond.

Dr. Chowdhury’s academic journey is equally remarkable. He completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Education for Sustainable Development from the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS), Japan, in 2004. He earned his Ph.D. in a comprehensive study on freshwater aquaculture development in Bangladesh from Hiroshima University in 2002, followed by an M.Sc. from the same institution in 1999. He also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Management in Rural Development Projects from the Nordic Agricultural College, Denmark, in 1994, and a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Fisheries from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1986.

With a lifelong commitment to research, innovation, and sustainable development, Dr. Masudul Hoq Chowdhury continues to inspire through his contributions to academia and rural development, both nationally and internationally.
